Thread: Engine rebuild advice

As long as the Mitsu MLS HG will hold 25psi (average) on my FP3150 reliably...well as reliably as can be I guess....it sounds good to me.

I plan on getting an oem clutch disc, tob, fork, and pivot ball. I just picked up the resurfaced flywheel from Edwin's courtesy of Rob. I will be sure to scuff up the PP. I'll be posting up and asking more questions when I get to that point.

For now the plan is to completely disassemble, bag, and tag the 2 motors sitting in my garage that I won't be using. Then I'll yank out the motor from the car, take that apart and then I'll start putting together the new shortblock. So if anyone needs engine parts...keep an eye out for my posts. 7 bolt and 6 bolt.

It's nice to be able to re-use the HG a few times. I'd also suggest a 2G disc like Nate said.

You can re-use the old pressure plate but scuff if up with some emery cloth and then clean it off with some brake cleaner. If you're not getting the flywheel re-surfaced then I'd do the same thing with the flywheel to put a fresh surface on it and break the glaze.

    33psi + 50trim + meth + stock HG = win

Just to update. Kyle (iboostdoyou) and I ripped apart the 6 bolt and Tom's old 7 bolt that was missing a rod/piston. Tom, if you have that extra piston/rod, let me know so I can put it back with it's family.

I was planning on getting Talon on jackstands, popping out the axles, taking off the driveshaft, removing knock sensor, shifter linkage, etc. and basically getting it ready to rip out with a hoist and then installing HIDs in the slowbalt. Unfortunately cold weather, snow, and mom yelling "dinner time" stopped me after getting the motors apart, bagged, and tagged.

Some pics from the day's labor....well afternoon's labor:

    Look....8 cylinder 4g63!!

lol that rod/piston wouldn't be of use anyway because the rod is bent. It's since been cleaned up and is a nice mantle piece in my room

    8 cylinder 4G63 = 2 times the headaches.

Ok, so I have a few possibly dumb questions, but help a brother out!

The two long shafts that come out of the front case that go into the motor...are those the balance shafts? I've never actually seen them before.

I have the assembly for the crankshaft sprocket and nut from a 7 bolt. Can I use that on the 6 bolt?

I literally have just a shortblock for the new motor and no other 6 bolt parts except for a rear main seal plate and bolts. What 6 bolt specific stuff do I need to get and what 7 bolt stuff can I transfer over? Can I use 7 bolt flywheel bolts? (just 6 instead of 7...)

    Thanks.

yes those are the balance shafts

I THINK that the 7 bolt has different timing marks on that plate with the timing mark on it behind the crank timing gear, I would try and use a 6 bolt one unless someone here says otherwise.

Flywheel bolts will work, same things.

    You'll need a new flywheel
