View Full Version : Hitting fuel cut @ 5500rpm...

First some details on my setup:

92 Talon AWD 5sp

255 pump, Small 16g, HKS External, 2g exhaust, Buschur upper IC pipe, 3" turboback (no cat), stock crushed BOV, 2g TB elbow, STOCK 1g MAS, and I think that's all the important stuff.

I was given a manual boost controller with the car, but I have yet to install it. At the moment, the HKS External is the only thing limiting boost. The boost is set to around 15psi. Under longer WOT acceleration (like in 3rd or 4th gear) I have seen the boost creep up to around 18psi.

I've heard of people running more boost than even this with stock tuning and not hitting cut, so what's going on here? What do I need to change/replace/upgrade to eliminate this? I'm not looking to run mega boost at this point, but I would like to be able to run 14-15psi and still pull all the way up to 7,000rpm.

Thanks!

Hmm, mabey because we've fixed huge vacuum leaks since you drove it, and it spools up a lot harder now? :D Just remember, right now my car is faster than your race car

Plugs are on order, as are a bunch of other crap. I havn't pulled a plug yet but for the hell of it I pulled off a couple of wires today, plugs looked fairly new, I think he even told me they were recently replaced.

you should be hitting fuel cut and good thing you do. you are on the verge of frying your engine with those stock injectors.

i suggest selling off that external wastegate and use the cash to help buy some 550's, EVO MAF, and keydiver chip.

if you want to get around the fuel cut and blow up your motor, hack the shit out of your MAF meter so your computer doesn't know you are getting so much air flow.

a 16g creeping to 18psi in 32* weather is going to fuel cut on a stock 1g maf. you really need to go to 550's and get some sort of method of radjusting the airflow signal (hack maf, AFC, dsmlink, chipped ecu). right now you can't lower the airflow signal without running out of fuel, since you probobly on the ragged edge of fuel supply as it is with 450's

Thanks everybody. I didn't realize the stock injectors were so tapped out.

I'd start looking for a set of Evo8 injectors, they're rated at 560cc, they usually flow closer to 600cc, and they can be had pretty cheap. I'd also recommend a chip from DSMChips.com since it will do a lot more than an SAFC and will compensate for the injectors without screwing up your timing curves. Then when you outgrow the 560's you can add an SAFC to the mix.

Thanks everybody. I didn't realize the stock injectors were so tapped out.

I had a MBC in that car when I had it and never went above 15psi. I did datalog the car and IDC was around 85%. Like Nate said, 550's and some sort of fuel control will do the trick.
