Are 1G and 2G knock sensors compatible?

My sensor has gone to shit. Gooey stuff oozing out of it, 43 full counts in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear, no timing advance. I was reading RRE's page and they wrote that the 1G sensor is crap to begin with and the 2G is a better unit (This was an article about installing an AEM EMS in a 1G, btw). Are they a direct swap with no reworking the electrical connections?

no, you can only swap them with a computer that has both calibrations, a stock ecu will not know that a differnet sensor is attached.
