Hey guys/girls

Not sure if some of you read my post before it got hacked. But just incase you havent here is to short story.

Okay so i purchased the car last sept. It came with aftermarket rims but i didnt like it so sold the old ones and got myself new pair of rims. So while i was taking the rims off my car to put the new ones on i found out that Rear passenger side wheelstuds were stripped. So went to few store bought wheelstuds and Try to do it with my friend. But so far i took off the calipers, rotors and i cut off the dust shield since last post it say that i will need to put the new ones on.

So i found out after i cut the dust shield off i still wont be able to put new wheelstuds on.

My car is 95 Eagle Talon Tsi awd that is made on Oct. 94.

So If Anybody know how to change the wheelstuds could you please help me out??

I would bring it to shop to get it fixed but i cant even drive it anywhere since lug nuts wont stay on. Second i do have chilton manual, Me and my friend looked at in and we were lost what da hell we were doing... Im not sure if you were the one told me to cut the dustshield off... I asked all my friends and all of us had no clue, that's why i posted on the fourm.

I would drive the car to the shop if i could but both the wheelstuds that i could put on is on the same side. So just incase that i dirve and something does happen ex. rim come out of the car i would be screwed... I have the money but there is no way in hell im driving my car to the shop.

Yeah i know luke. I'm sure your beat from working from 7-9. Just curious how long will it take to change the wheelstuds? I mean i took of the caliper, rotor, and cut off the dust shield. So after that how long will it take?

If you can't drive it to the shop then tow it and get used to towing your car, mine spends more time on the back of one than actually being driven.

i could hammer the old one out but i dont think it has enough room for it to come out or fit the new ones in..

I was gonna help you but i hurt my back and cant do any real work for a week. This job is very simple hit the studs head on with a hammer when they fall off just grab them from the bottom. Now there should be a spot that you could install the stud from the back if not just rotate the hub until u can.once the lug is on it has to pressed in which is impossible with the hub on.So go find a spacer that u can slide onto the lug and still be able to put a nut on. Tighten the nut until the stud is flush and pulled through.Put the wheel on and torque it.

Thank you ill look behind the wheel to see if i could put the new ones in... Hopefully ill see it. By the way what do you mean by "pressed in"?

gtluke
10-20-2005, 07:49 AM
pressed in means tighten a lug down with no wheel on but put a spacer in there. as you tighten the lug on the spacer, it presses the lug in.

Phreak
10-21-2005, 12:35 PM
Pressed in, you know, like forced in. Kinda like when you press a ball joint into a control arm, only this should be much much easier.

How did i do that? Good question man. It came like that when i bought the car. My old set of rims the lug nuts were stripped like hell so i had to get a allen key size bigger to get the stripped lug nuts out. So i believe my preview owner of the car didnt know what he was doing.

So i went last sunday to see if there is gap behind the wheelstuds i saw a hole big enough to get the wheelstuds out and the new ones in. So do i use that hole to put the new one on? also there is a wire is attach close to it. Do i take that wire off?

gtluke
10-30-2005, 12:08 AM
don't touch the wire. just hit the studs with a hammer in and they will fall right out.

push them back through the other side, and use a bunch of washers and then thread the lug on and tighten it down. it will pull the stud through.

Ok I just did my one wheel(note to everyone double check that ALL your lugnuts are tight when you put a wheel on) here is how I did it.
1. Strip off the brake and rotor.
2. Hit it with some PB blaster and let it soak in.
3. Slide a lugnut on stud, then take a full-sized sledge and holding it kinda like golf club give it few decently hard wacks and it will start to back out of the hub.
4. Put in the new stud and take a bunch of washers, slide them on the stud and screw a lugnut on the stud. Then take a 4-way and torque the hell outta it until the new stud is pulled in the hub (this takes a while and the 4 way won't turn unless you really f'ing crank it).
5. Rinse and repeat.

lugs arn't straight enough. try and get them in further.

actually that's what i thought too. So i flip the rotor and try it and it has no problem going in. If you look at pg 3 first picture i posted the metal piece that has spring on it, i pulled it so i have room to put new ones in. So i'm thinking that is causing the rotor not going in. So any way fixin it??

gtluke

oh shit, yeah i think your brake shoes jsut arn't lined up. put it on as far as you can and shove the brake shoes around till they slip in. might take some hammer taps. the shoes move.

u need to "unadjust" the park brake so the shoes sink in, so the rotor fits. Then make sure u re-adjust the park brake once ur done.
